Cricket Formats and Major Tournaments

T20 is the most popular format among cricket fans in Bangladesh — fast-paced, with the situation changing on every ball, and the most betting markets available in this format. baaji offers betting on every match in BPL (Bangladesh Premier League), IPL and the ICC T20 World Cup.

In ODI format, a 50-over match includes markets such as total team runs, at-half-time score and match winner. Patience plays more of a role than in shorter formats, as the game unfolds over a longer period.

Test cricket is played over five days — a draw is a normal result here, so the market has three options: Team A wins, Team B wins, or the match is drawn. In Test betting, pitch conditions, weather and a team's batting depth are important factors.

Alongside these three formats, baaji also offers betting markets for Bangladesh Tigers matches in international fixtures. There are separate markets for football and other sports as well — those are discussed towards the end of this page.

Betting on Football and Other Sports

baaji Football and Sports Betting Markets

The betting structure for football is somewhat different from cricket. In cricket, a T20 match cannot end in a draw, so the market is limited to two outcomes. In football, a draw is a possible result, so the market typically has three options: 1X2 (home win / draw / away win). Understanding this difference makes reading odds easier.

The over/under market on number of goals is very common in football — you bet on whether the total goals scored will be more or less than a set line. In the handicap market, one team is given a notional goal advantage, which reduces the gap in probability between the two sides.

For sports like tennis, badminton and basketball, markets are generally focused on match winner and set/game over/under. Live markets are available here as well, as in cricket, but the speed of price changes depends on the nature of the sport.

baaji's sports betting section on baaji Bet lets you view cricket, football and other sports markets all in one place.

Popular Cricket Betting Markets

Get a brief overview of each market below — a simple example is given for each one.

Match Winner

Cricket

The simplest market — which team will win. Example: in a T20 match, Team A's odds are 2.10 and Team B's are 1.75. If you bet on Team B and they win, you profit; if Team A wins, your stake is lost.

Toss Winner

Cricket

A bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The outcome is entirely independent — it has no connection to the final result of the match.

Top Batsman

Individual

A bet on which player within a team will score the most runs. You pick one from multiple batsmen, so odds are generally higher.

Total Runs Over/Under

Runs Market

A set runs line is given — you bet on whether the total runs scored will be over or under that line. In T20, this line is usually around 150 to 180 runs.

First Over of the Innings

In-Play

How many runs will be scored in the first over — a line of 5 or 6 runs is usually set. Odds fluctuate slightly depending on the form of the opening batsmen and bowler.

Multi Bet

Multiple Matches

Three or more selections from different matches combined into a single bet. Example: if three selections have decimal odds of 1.50, 1.60 and 1.90, the combined odds are 4.56 — win all three and a ৳100 bet returns ৳456. Lose even one and the entire bet is lost.

Cricket betting is for entertainment — for persons aged 21 and above. Read the responsible gaming guidelines.

How to Read Odds in Three Formats

Decimal, fractional and American — three different ways of writing odds, but they all mean the same thing. Use the two examples below to understand them.

Example 1 — Odds for the Underdog Team

Team A to win, ৳200 stake. Decimal 2.25 = Fractional 5/4 = American +125. If you win, total return is ৳450 (৳250 profit + ৳200 original stake). If you lose, ৳200 is gone.

Example 2 — Odds for the Favourite Team

Team B to win, ৳200 stake. Decimal 1.50 = Fractional 1/2 = American -200. American minus odds mean how much you need to stake to win ৳100 in profit. If you win, total return is ৳300 (৳100 profit).

Which Format Is Easiest?

Decimal odds are the most straightforward — multiply the stake by the odds to get the total return. The default format on baaji is decimal, but you can change it to your preference. Fractional odds are mainly used in British markets, and in American format a minus number indicates the favourite while a plus number indicates the underdog.

Live In-Play

Odds Change Instantly When a Wicket Falls

Live in-play betting is different from regular pre-match betting — odds update after every ball as the match progresses. When a wicket falls, the batting team's odds increase; when runs come quickly, they decrease. After the powerplay ends, odds generally shift slightly in favour of the bowling side.

In-play markets may also include smaller point markets such as 'how many runs in the next over' or 'what type of wicket falls next'. These open and close quickly, so it is important to keep track of the time window for each market.

Live betting can be enjoyable, but it comes with the pressure of making quick decisions. Set your budget limit before placing bets and follow the responsible gaming guidelines.

In-play betting is most convenient on mobile — the baaji Android and iOS apps are available through official channels.

Some Useful Approaches for Cricket Betting

  • Understand the format before betting. T20 and Test markets are different. In T20, total runs or match winner are straightforward. In Test cricket, a draw is a real outcome — keep all three options in mind.
  • Keep a fixed budget. Before each bet, decide how much you are comfortable losing. It is better not to place extra bets in a hurry during live markets.
  • Keep selections low in a multi bet. The more selections you add, the lower the chance of winning all of them. A multi bet with two or three selections is comparatively simpler.
  • Read over/under markets carefully. Pitch conditions, the dew factor and the bowling lineup all affect this market. It is better not to bet based only on the previous match's score.
  • Betting is for entertainment, not income. Cricket betting is for enjoyment — be cautious of anyone promising big wins. Reading the frequently asked questions will clarify many things.
  • Know the rules before betting. Read baaji's terms and conditions — knowing the rules on bonus usage and market cancellation in particular will help you avoid confusion.

Frequently Asked Questions

T20 generally has the most markets — match winner, toss, over-by-over runs, top batsman and live wicket markets all available together. Most markets are available for ODIs as well. Tests have fewer markets in comparison, though the draw market adds a different dimension.

If a selection is cancelled (for example because a match is abandoned), that selection is removed from the multi bet and the combined odds are recalculated using the remaining selections. The entire multi bet is not cancelled. However, it is worth checking baaji's terms and conditions page for the specific rules.

In normal betting, decimal odds do not go below 1.00 — because that would mean getting back less than the stake, which no betting platform offers. The minimum decimal odds are usually 1.01 or above.

Odds change quickly in live markets — especially when a wicket falls or a big shot is hit. If the odds change while you are placing a bet, the platform will usually show the new odds and ask for confirmation. Keeping a good connection speed during live betting is helpful.

During BPL, a larger number of markets are generally active. Match winner, toss, live over-by-over markets and top batsman are all available in BPL. Outside the season, betting continues on international T20 and ODI matches, so cricket markets are available throughout the year.
